Last night, for the second time in my life, I got pulled over. I must say that it was by far my best experience of talking to a cop on the side of a road... I wonder how often a police man feels the need to pull someone over for going almost too slow...
My van, amidst the myriad of other problems it has right now, decided yesterday to get a leak in the radiator hose... or blow a water pump... actually i really don't know what is wrong with it...
I walked out to my car yesterday only to find a note on my windshield saying that i was leaking antifreeze. Of course i looked under my car just to make sure... much to my chagrin there was a puddle so large that was beginning to flow into other parking spots.
Caleb came up (luckily he was coming up anyway to hang out with me while i worked) and brought two bottles of antifreeze with him... we refilled it, in the rain, and proceeded home at around 10pm...
On the way home, the darn thing kept overheating, so i kept stopping to let it cool down. Finally i just got sick of that i decided just to try to make it home by going really slowly, with my hazards on... thats where Mr. police man came into the story. No, officer, I have not been drinking....haha he didnt ask if i was...
On 35W somewhere before 90th....
Officer: hi, are you having car trouble
me: YES! I am so so sorry you had to pull me over. I was trying really hard to stay above the minimun...
Officer: no, no you were doing ok. What seems to be the problem here? (do they always say that? I should ask caleb if that is part of the training)
me: well my car is overheating... i just dumped a bunch of antifreeze into it and i am just trying to make it home. I am so sorry you had to pull me over! (i think i said that about 15 times during our conversation) I was trying really hard to go fast enough, i just didnt want it to over heat more (if thats possible)
Officer: (as he is looking at my lisence) no, no its ok... its probably not often that you go this slow...
Me: Yeah, i don't think i have ever gone this slow in my entire life!!!!
My head: why the HECK would you just say that to a cop?!?!?!
Officer: Well, (he hesitates as he looks at my address and realizes that we are in Bloomington and i still have to make it to Burnsville... I didnt not offer up the information that i was coming from Roseville...;) ) ok.... good luck making it home...
me: thank you so much, I am so sorry about this...
Officer: (gives me directions about how to safely get back on the road) Good luck!
I drove a little faster after that, prayed for a good parking spot... got a great one which is unheard of at that time of night.. stopped my car and was immediately surrounded by a huge cloud of smoke... i do not doubt that God made that van hold out until I got home...
